Spanish Speaking PowerPoint
Final PowerPoint
Presentation Picture
At the Dayton Regional STEM School, we have a class called Language Explorations. In this class, we were supposed to explore Spanish cultures of the world. Our project was to make a PowerPoint presentation about a Spanish speaking country. For example, Spain and Venezuela are Spanish speaking countries. This project was to be done in groups. The PowerPoint itself was worth 100 points. After we were done, we were to present it to the class. The presentation was worth 100 points as well. My partners in this project were Jayashree Iyer and Rachael Stowe.
The purpose of this project was to teach the other students in the class about the specific country that some researched as well as learning to research and make a final product in the form of a PowerPoint. Research is used in every job. For example, when you are a scientist you may have to research about different vaccines, research about different types of bacteria, or even researching about a disease. Researching is a skill that I will use in my later years at STEM in every class, college, and on.
The PowerPoint was to include at least 12 slides. Some topics in the PowerPoint included: food, dance, president, government, and famous people. Our teacher wanted us to include at least 12 slides because she wanted the PowerPoint to be substantive. She wanted us to do this because she wanted us to teach the class about our country in detail. Even though the PowerPoint was supposed to be substantive, she wanted it to be visually appealing. This means that the slides have to be filled more with pictures than actual words. If there was too much information, the presentation would be overwhelming and boring. Having colors and pictures made the PowerPoint seem more playful. People who visually learn appreciate them more.
I had a few struggles during this project. During the time of the PPT a big project was also going on. This was the storybook project. Since this was going on, I had trouble with finishing my slides due to lack of time. I was so focused on the storybook that I totally forgot about the Spain PowerPoint. I overcame this by working at home since I was busy with the storybook at school. I finally did finish my slides on time.
I used creativity and collaboration in this project. Collaboration is one of the five DRSS qualities. Collaboration is when two or more people work together to achieve a common goal. To have good collaboration skills someone should be adaptable, a good listener, and be a good leader. For example, Jayashree, Rachael and I are adaptable in certain situations. I was adaptable when I was going to do extra research for one of my group members because they were a little too busy. We are all very good listeners and don’t put anybody down if they come up with a silly solution. We all listen to each others ideas and then agree on the best one. Being a good leader is also a very good skill to have. I remember one day when Rachael and I were tired and were not feeling good about researching. Jayashree brought up our spirits by giving us a pep talk. In this project I collaborated with other team members by using my three simple collaboration skills as I have mentioned above. This is an example: At the beginning of this project, Jayashree, Rachael, and I divided up the research between ourselves and researched with 3 different computers in 5th period (Language Explorations). I was the scribe, which meant that I wrote down research. Jayashree was the leader, the person who guided the group. Rachael was the computer person who was in charge of websites and the computer.
Creativity is also one of the five DRSS qualities. Creativity is when someone can thinkoutside the box and come up with a unique idea or a product. Since we used PowerPoint, we had a lot of potential to be creative. There were lots of background colors and animations. We could have alsochosen pictures from the internet. When Jayashree, Rachael and I collaborated we chose backgroundcolors and animations, but our background differed on some of the slides. For example, one of our slides was about our country’s flag, so we put flag as the background. Most people did not do that. They had their normal background for all slides. This made our PPT unique and creative. We had many more fun pictures and videos. Creativity did definitely occur in this project.
