                The 5 Qualities

At the Dayton Regional STEM School, the unique ideal of “Project Based Learning” is brought out in every classroom. But, what is “Project Based Learning?” More importantly, what does it mean to me? Instead of a simple ‘here’s a textbook, there is a test on Friday’,” our school believes in learning through projects. Now, projects can be as simple as completing a cell book or as complicated as a collaborative project with 3 classes involved! Through these projects, we gain needed knowledge and experience, further preparing us for the goal of learning. We learn by doing ourselves, not by doing what someone told us to do, which make this school so unique! PBL, to me, is a way of learning information by creating a product that sticks with you for a long time.

Along with “Project Based Learning,” another unique aspect of DRSS is the idea of 5 Qualities. 5 Qualities, the 5 being Collaboration, Creativity, Persistence, Inquiry, and Communication, are used by every student, daily. These qualities, albeit very general, pertain to most every class, with Inquiry, Persistence, Communication, and Creativity being used most often! I believe that these 5 qualities will help prepare me for the future, with the 5 qualities also relating to the workplace environment. Click on the pictures below to get a closer look on each quality!
